Waves and Mixing in the Coastal Zone

چکیده
As part of our project entitled Wind, Waves, and Mixing in the Coastal Region (AO3-379) some measurements of waves and current profiles were performed in our study site. In the Pacific coast of Baja California, a wave and current sensor, a marine radar and a meteorological station have been in operation since mid 1998. Additionaly, a current meter profiler (adp) was installed for some days in early 1999. During the adp deployment synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images were acquired by RADARSAT-1 and ERS-2. We intent to report on the study of mixing processes as observed by SAR images and being under the influence of waves and currents. At least for the case of ERS-2 SAR image acquisition, in spite of the presence of waves, relatively low wind conditions and absence of currents indicates no susceptibility for even moderate mixing. The wave field is unable to remove the dark features of the type of streaks observed in the coastal region through SAR imagery. Besides a study on dispersion and coastal circulation [1], and some analysis on the homogeneity of the wave field [2], background measurements over the area are not common.

Long term coastal erosion and shoreline positions of Sri Lanka
Coastal zone of Sri Lanka is a key to sustainable development of the country. The erosion of country’s coastal zone has been identified as a long standing problem. Therefore, coastal sediment dynamics around the country has to be identified to develop an appropriate coastal zone management plan. Remote sensing and GIS techniques can be used for quantitative and qualitative analyses of coastal p...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Tsunami Waves Associated With Worst Earthquake Scenarios of the Makran Subduction Zone in the Jask Port, Iran
The recent studies show that the past researches may have significantly underestimated earthquake and tsunami hazard in the Makran Subduction Zone (MSZ) and this region is potentially capable of producing major earthquakes. In this study, the worst case possible earthquake scenarios of the MSZ are simulated using fully nonlinear boussinesq model to investigate tsunami hazards on the Jask Port, ...

In this study, abstraction, desalination and recharge method and SEAWAT numerical model are used to investigate seawater intrusion repulsion in a hypothetical two-dimensional coastal aquifer to understand the relation of seawater intrusion with abstraction, desalination and recharge parameters (i.e. abstraction/recharge rate, wells distance and depth). Abstraction, desalination and recharge con...

In the Tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004, although there was a large distance between the earthquake center of Indian Ocean and coastal cities of Iran, the Tsunami waves brought some damages in Chabahar coast. This means that if the earthquake center was closer to Iran, Iran’s coastal regions would have confronted serious danger... In the present study, we used ComMIT software (Community Model Int...
